Standardized tests used with young children for school and program placement attempt to measure the ability to think carefully and critically. This easy-to-use, fun product provides children with the opportunity to recognize how the critical thinking skills they already possess can be applied to a test. It also builds confidence by reducing the anxiety that can hinder children from performing their best on tests.

Thinking Skills for Tests presents nine thinking skills that form the base of both verbal and nonverbal reasoning and logic:
  • Listening
  • Classifying Objects and Concepts
  • Building Vocabulary Through the Process of Elimination
  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Reasoning With Analogies
  • Arithmetic Reasoning
  • Sequencing
  • Recognizing Patterns

The Instruction/Answer Guide contains supplementary information on the skills being developed and the question text to be read aloud to the student. The Guide also explains the nine thinking skills presented in the Workbook and teaches solution tips.

Thinking Skills for Tests presents questions in a format similar to that of many commonly used tests. The Workbook presents the questions without words just as a student will see them during a test. The Instructor/Answer book provides a script for presenting the questions and additional information for building on the skills.

If you're a parent experiencing uncertainty about what the testing experience might be like for your child this title should alleviate those concerns and answer some commonly asked questions. If you're looking for a product which will help make your child more familiar with what they'll encounter during testing this will suit your needs. If you want to ensure that your child has been exposed to all the types of problems they are likely to be tested on this is the product for you.

Thinking Skills for Tests was prepared following ethical guidelines provided by the American Psychological Association and the National Council on Measurement in Education. The content does not deliberately mimic that of any specific test. Parents need have no concerns that use of this book might jeopardize their child's placement. That said the format of the questions used is just like that in most of the tests commonly used at this age.

Additional student Workbooks
